Maputo rewards walking: jacaranda-lined avenues, Portuguese colonial and mid-century modernist buildings, a Gustave Eiffel-attributed iron house and a working fish market where you buy the catch and have it cooked next door.
Practicalities
Use ride-hailing or arranged transport at night, keep valuables discreet, carry some cash, and note that Portuguese goes a long way outside hotels and the main restaurants.
